June 22, 2018 International student visa applications to higher education institutions in Australia are on the rise, according to the latest visa application data.
Applications for university study saw a 14 percent rise, with visa requests from Chinese applicants counting for the highest increase at 22 percent, per Times Higher Education.
This increase, which is 20 percent up from last year, follows the pattern seen in the last few months, in which Australia recorded an unchanged number of visa requests in February and March from last year.
Although enrolments have decreased in a handful of metropolitan institutions, the sustained growth in international student applications in the majority of higher education institutions speaks volumes about the quality and popularity of higher education in Australia among international students.
One major reason for this surge in popularity is the quality education and relative ease of getting a job in Australia post-graduation, and then gaining permanent residency afterwards.
After finishing graduation, international students have many options to live and work in Australia.
