Skilled migration visa holders to Australia will have the chance to apply for permanent residency in the country after living and working in the Northern Territory for at least three years.
A total of 117 occupations on the Australian jobs list will provide skilled migrants with this facility. These occupations include Accountants, Chief Executives or Managing Directors, Marketing Specialists, Tour Guides, and Web Designers, among others.
This arrangement is a part of the Designation Area Migration Agreements (DAMA), which is the Australian government’s scheme to distribute the skilled migrant populace outside Australia’s major cities.
DAMA will aim to aid the regional development of Australia and has been announced for the Northern Territory and the Warrnambool region in Victoria.
David Coleman, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs claimed that DAMA is a prime example of the Australian government’s desire to develop the states, territories and regional areas of Australia with the help of skilled migration visa holders.
In addition, this arrangement can help businesses in the Northern Territory fill vacancies with foreign workers who are looking to migrate to Australia.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner also hailed the DAMA framework for giving skilled visa holders an added incentive to pursue careers in the Northern Territory with the addition of a pathway to permanent residency in Australia.
He also lauded the long and proud history of skilled migrants to Australia’s Northern Territory for contributing to the development of the region’s economic and population growth, as well as social diversity.
